Amazon has officially launched Lens Live, a significant upgrade to its existing visual search capabilities, bringing real-time AI-powered shopping directly to consumers’ smartphones. Unveiled yesterday, this new feature allows users to point their phone at objects in the real world and instantly discover matching products available on Amazon, presented in a convenient swipeable carousel.

Lens Live doesn’t replace the current Amazon Lens but enhances it with a live component, enabling spontaneous product discovery and comparison shopping. The tool seamlessly integrates with Amazon’s AI shopping assistant, Rufus, offering instant product insights, summaries, and conversational prompts to aid purchasing decisions. This innovation capitalizes on customer behavior, particularly comparison shopping while in physical retail stores.

Powered by Amazon SageMaker services and running on AWS-managed Amazon OpenSearch, Lens Live is designed for scalable, real-time machine learning. Shoppers can tap on any item in their camera view to focus the feature, then add matches to their cart or wish list. Initially rolling out to tens of millions of iOS users in the U.S. via the Amazon Shopping app, this launch marks another major stride in Amazon’s ongoing investment in AI to enhance the online shopping experience.
