Attendees at this year’s Burning Man event in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert are currently battling dust and wind, with forecasts indicating an escalation to thunderstorms, potential hail, and continued dust storms through Wednesday.

The iconic event, which commenced Sunday, is experiencing typical monsoon season conditions. The National Weather Service reports a 30% to 60% chance of precipitation in the Reno area from Monday to Wednesday, with slow-moving storms capable of producing significant rain and small hail, as noted by meteorologist GiGi Giralte. These conditions are already being captured in social media videos showing attendees contending with high winds and dust.

While the moisture could help mitigate some dust, Giralte urges participants to closely monitor forecasts and plan for hazardous conditions, including seeking shelter. Relief is expected by Thursday as the area begins to dry up, offering a few days of clearer weather before the event concludes next Monday. Organizers are mindful of past challenges, such as the 2023 event where heavy rains turned exit routes into a muddy quagmire, causing significant travel delays.
