Israel has launched significant retaliatory airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, following a recent attack by the Iran-backed rebels that involved a new, advanced type of missile. The strikes, which occurred on Sunday, targeted a military site, two power plants, and a fuel storage facility in the Houthi-controlled capital of Sanaa.

According to Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV, citing the country’s Ministry of Health, at least four people were killed and 67 wounded in the Israeli operations. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the strikes, stating they were a direct response to “repeated attacks by the Houthi terrorist regime against the State of Israel and its civilians.” An Israeli air force official revealed that over 10 fighter jets participated, with some targets located approximately 2,000 kilometers (1,240 miles) from Israel, demonstrating the extensive reach of the operation.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a stern warning, stating, “For every missile the Houthis launch at Israel, they will pay many times over.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed this sentiment, emphasizing his country’s “strength and determination” and that the Houthi regime “will pay a very heavy price for its aggression.” In response, Mohammad al-Farrah, a member of the Houthi leadership, reiterated their commitment to supporting the people of Gaza and vowed not to retreat until the aggression is lifted, the siege broken, and the starvation of Gaza’s people stopped. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei also praised the Houthi actions as the “right course of action” on X.

The Israeli strikes came after the Houthis launched a missile against Israel on Friday. An Israeli air force official noted that, for the first time, this Houthi missile contained sub-munitions designed to detonate upon impact. While police in the Tel Aviv district reported interception fragments landing in several sites, no injuries were reported from the Friday attack.
