Dotemu has officially announced that Absolum, the highly anticipated fantasy beat-’em-up from the creators of Streets of Rage 4, will launch on October 9. This news comes alongside a new preview event that has garnered significant praise, with many critics highlighting the game’s innovative blend of roguelike and Souls-like mechanics.

Early impressions suggest Absolum offers a refreshing take on the beat-’em-up genre, moving beyond simple button-mashing to deliver deep, strategic combat. Players can expect a robust “Ritual” system reminiscent of Hades’ Boons, allowing for extensive character customization and synergistic builds. The game also features an “Arcana” system for special attacks and a parry-like “Clash” mechanic, demanding precise timing and tactical engagement.

The preview also showcased Absolum’s diverse roster of four unique characters, each with distinct playstyles, and introduced a new zone, Jaroba, promising varied enemy encounters. Set to release on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PS5, Absolum is already being touted as a potential surprise indie game of the year contender for fans of challenging, mechanically rich combat systems.
