Gaza City is currently facing an intensified Israeli bombardment as forces reportedly prepare for an expanded ground operation to take full control of the area. This escalation coincides with urgent international demands for action against a rapidly worsening humanitarian crisis, with multiple nations and organizations warning of an unfolding famine.

The United Kingdom, European Union, Australia, Canada, and Japan have issued a joint statement asserting that “famine is unfolding in front of our eyes” and calling for immediate, concrete steps to facilitate aid entry and reverse starvation. Separately, the World Health Organization (WHO) appealed to Israel on Tuesday to allow critical medical supplies to be stocked in Gaza’s hospitals, describing the health situation as “catastrophic.”

Residents in areas such as Zeitoun and Sabra report three consecutive days of severe attacks, resulting in “massive destruction to civilian homes” and making it impossible to retrieve casualties from the rubble. The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza reported 100 deaths over the past 24 hours, including 31 at aid distribution sites, with five additional fatalities attributed to malnutrition.

The Israeli war cabinet voted on Monday to proceed with a takeover of Gaza City, a decision that was condemned at an emergency UN Security Council meeting. On Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated they were “at the beginning of a new state of combat.” Amidst these developments, a group of former global leaders, “The Elders,” for the first time labeled the conflict an “unfolding genocide” and held Israel responsible for the famine conditions within the besieged territory, intensifying mounting criticism against the 22-month-long war.
