Motive Unconfirmed in Fatal Atlanta CDC/Emory Shooting as Investigation Continues

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is continuing its probe into the fatal shooting incident that occurred near Emory University and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. The incident tragically resulted in the death of a DeKalb County Police Officer.
Authorities have identified Patrick Joseph White as the active shooter. White died on Friday inside a CVS pharmacy located at 1600 Clifton Road. The GBI has not yet released details regarding the cause of White’s death, nor has a definitive motive for the attack been confirmed.
The events unfolded around 4:50 p.m. on Friday, prompting immediate lockdowns at the CDC, Emory University, and several nearby facilities. Police reported that White fired multiple rounds, striking the CDC building, before being confronted by officers on the second floor of the CVS. During the confrontation, DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose was fatally wounded.
While the investigation is ongoing, an anonymous neighbor informed FOX 5 that White was reportedly upset over the COVID-19 vaccine, claiming it caused an illness. Other neighbors expressed shock, stating they would not have suspected such actions from White, who was known for performing yard work in the community. Law enforcement officials recovered a long gun and three additional firearms at the scene. The GBI is leading the complex case, with assistance from the Atlanta Police Department and the FBI.
