Porsche Motorsport has officially announced a significantly refined version of its highly successful 911 GT3 R race car, set to debut for the 2026 season. This evolution builds upon the current model’s impressive track record, which includes numerous global victories and titles since its 2023 launch, cementing its status as a top contender in GT racing.

The primary focus of this new iteration is on enhancing suspension and aerodynamics to deliver even more balanced handling and improved drivability, particularly benefiting non-professional drivers under varying conditions. Key aerodynamic advancements include the addition of ‘louvres’ on the front wheel arches, which significantly improve airflow and counteract front-end compression during braking. At the rear, a new Gurney flap on the swan-neck wing and a reinforced, fully enclosed underbody contribute to increased downforce and broader aerodynamic balance adjustments. These changes, coupled with optimized suspension kinematics, aim to reduce pitch sensitivity and improve dynamic load distribution.

“Our focus for this update was on optimisation. Small changes can make a big difference when built on a solid, proven foundation,” stated Sebastian Golz, Project Manager Porsche 911 GT3 R, highlighting confidence in the evolution’s competitive edge. Michael Dreiser, Director Sales Porsche Motorsport, emphasized the 911 GT3 R’s more than 420 podium finishes as a testament to its excellence.

Beyond major aerodynamic and chassis changes, Porsche has incorporated numerous detailed improvements based on extensive customer feedback. These include additional fluid cooling for the electrohydraulic power steering, new ceramic wheel bearings for enhanced durability, and modified centring pins for easier drive shaft installation with dedicated air cooling. A modified driver air vent ensures consistent cockpit circulation, and a new RLU USB stick allows for quick data logging during pit stops.

Porsche Motorsport will also offer several previously optional packages as standard equipment for the new 911 GT3 R, including sensor, endurance, pit lane link, and camera packages. For existing 992-generation 911 GT3 R models, an update kit will be available, allowing teams to upgrade their current cars with the new modifications, starting at 41,500 Euros plus tax. The 4.2-litre flat-six engine and drivetrain remain largely unchanged. Development began in August 2024, with successful testing conducted across various circuits, including a second-place finish at the Michelin 12H Spa-Francorchamps in April 2025 under competitive conditions.
