Two senior FBI officials, including Brian Driscoll, a former acting FBI director, and Steve Jensen, the acting director in charge of the Washington Field Office, are being terminated today, August 8, 2025. This significant move comes amidst ongoing tensions and a broader reshuffle within the Federal Bureau of Investigation under the current Trump administration.

Sources indicate that Jensen was explicitly informed his employment with the FBI would be terminated effective today. In a letter obtained by CNN, Jensen told his colleagues he would meet the challenge with “professionalism, integrity, and dignity,” and encouraged them to “never waver in your resolve to answer the call to protect the American people and uphold the Constitution.”

These high-profile dismissals are part of a wider effort by the administration to remove officials perceived as being at odds with President Trump, particularly those connected to investigations stemming from the January 6, 2021, US Capitol attack and the Mar-a-Lago probe. Earlier actions in the second Trump administration saw at least six senior officials ordered to retire, resign, or be fired, and included the controversial appointment of loyalist podcaster Dan Bongino as deputy director of the FBI.

The FBI and its Washington field office have declined to comment on the firings, which highlight the administration’s continued push to reshape the leadership and direction of federal agencies.
