California’s CalAssist: $20K Mortgage Relief for Disaster Victims!
California’s CalAssist: $20K Mortgage Relief for Disaster Victims!

Hey friend, did you hear about this amazing new program in California? It’s called CalAssist, and it’s a lifesaver for homeowners hit hard by recent natural disasters.
Basically, the state is giving out up to $20,000 in grants to help cover mortgage payments for up to three months. This is a huge deal, especially for those whose homes were damaged or destroyed in events like the recent San Diego floods. Think of it as a financial breather while you’re rebuilding your life.
The program, run by the California Housing Finance Agency, is dishing out $105 million in total. The money goes directly to your mortgage servicer – you don’t even have to worry about handling it. It’s completely free to apply, too!
Applications open June 12th online, and they’ll be processed first-come, first-served, so be ready! To qualify, your home needs to have been damaged or destroyed in a disaster between January 1, 2023, and January 8, 2025. They have a list of qualifying disasters on their site. You’ll also need to meet income limits (check the site for your county – the limit for San Diego County is $172,650), own a qualifying property (single-family home, condo, or manufactured home with up to four units), and have a mortgage or reverse mortgage. Make sure your mortgage servicer is participating – there’s a list on the CalAssist website.
To apply, you’ll need to gather some documents: mortgage statement, bank statements, utility bill, homeowner’s insurance or FEMA claim, and proof of income. If you need help, you can call 800-501-0019.
It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re a California homeowner who’s been affected by a recent disaster. This could be a game-changer! Head over to the CalAssist Mortgage Fund website for all the details and to apply.
