A coalition of 28 countries, including the UK, Japan, Australia, and Canada, has issued a forceful joint statement demanding an immediate end to the conflict in Gaza. The statement, released recently, underscores growing international alarm over the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the region and highlights Israel’s increasing diplomatic isolation.

Foreign ministers from these nations condemned the severe suffering of Gazan civilians, citing the “drip feeding of aid” and the tragic deaths of hundreds seeking basic necessities. They described recent fatalities, including over 800 Palestinians seeking aid, as “horrifying” and criticized Israel’s aid delivery model as dangerous and undignified, urging compliance with international humanitarian law.

Both Israel and the United States have rejected the statement. Israel’s Foreign Ministry labeled it “disconnected from reality,” accusing Hamas of prolonging the war. U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee similarly dismissed the statement, urging pressure on Hamas instead. Germany was notably absent from the joint declaration, though its Foreign Minister expressed grave concern over the humanitarian situation to his Israeli counterpart.

The current conflict, now in its 21st month since Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack, has pushed Gaza to the brink of famine, displacing 90% of its population. International pressure continues to mount, with calls for a ceasefire and a political pathway to lasting peace. However, ongoing ceasefire talks show no immediate breakthrough, as Israel vows to continue operations until all hostages are returned and Hamas is defeated.
