Off-Duty Border Patrol Agent Shot in NYC Park; Suspect Detained

An off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent was shot in the face and arm late Sunday night in New York City’s Fort Washington Park, with authorities confirming that one person is now in custody in connection with the incident. The shooting, which occurred just before midnight on Sunday, July 20, is currently being investigated as a possible robbery attempt.
The 42-year-old agent, whose identity has not been released, was transported to Harlem Hospital where he is recovering from his injuries and is expected to survive. Police sources indicate the incident took place near the Little Red Lighthouse, located directly beneath the George Washington Bridge in upper Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood.
Investigators are actively working to determine the full motive behind the attack and the extent of the detained individual’s involvement. This incident comes approximately two weeks after a separate shooting on July 7 at a Border Patrol sector annex in McAllen, Texas, where a gunman opened fire, injuring two police officers and a Border Patrol employee before being neutralized by law enforcement.
