A 61-year-old man has tragically died after being pulled into an MRI machine while reportedly wearing a metal chain at a medical facility in Westbury, New York. Nassau County Police confirmed Friday that the man, who suffered critical injuries in the Wednesday afternoon incident, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to a 911 call at Nassau Open MRI, where they were informed the victim “entered an unauthorized Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) room while the scan was in progress.” Police stated that a “large metallic chain around his neck” caused him to be drawn into the powerful machine, resulting in a severe medical episode. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The identity of the deceased has not been released. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. MRI machines utilize extremely strong magnetic fields to produce detailed images, and patients are routinely advised to remove all metal objects, including jewelry, before undergoing a scan due to the significant safety risks involved.
