Apple has initiated a lawsuit against prominent tech leaker Jon Prosser and co-defendant Michael Ramacciotti, accusing them of misappropriating trade secrets related to unreleased iOS 26 information. Filed in a Northern California district court, the suit claims the pair ‘conspired to break into an Apple employee’s development iPhone’ to steal proprietary data.

The legal filing details allegations that Ramacciotti accessed the development iPhone of Apple software design employee Ethan Lipnik, who was a friend. It’s alleged that Ramacciotti waited until Lipnik was away, using a location-tracking tool to confirm his absence, then made a FaceTime call to Prosser to display iOS 26 features and designs. Prosser is accused of screen-capturing this call to generate mockups for his YouTube videos, which included purported iOS 26 Camera app redesigns and the ‘Liquid Glass’ design language.

Apple claims it uncovered the alleged theft via an anonymous tip and possesses a voice note from Ramacciotti apologizing to Lipnik and implicating Prosser in the scheme. Lipnik’s employment with Apple was terminated for failing to protect confidential information. The tech giant asserts the compromised iPhone contained ‘significant amount of additional Apple trade secret information that has not yet been publicly disclosed’ and is seeking an injunction to prevent further disclosure, along with damages and a jury trial.

Responding to the lawsuit on X, Jon Prosser denied the allegations, stating, “This is not how things went down on my end. Looking forward to being able to speak to Apple about it.” He further clarified, “For the record: I certainly did not ‘plot’ to access anyone’s phone and was unaware of the situation playing out.”
