The Unicode Consortium has officially confirmed the next wave of emoji characters, set to be introduced with Unicode 17 this fall. This highly anticipated announcement, coinciding with World Emoji Day, gives users a glimpse into the new expressive options coming to their devices.

Among the notable additions are a ‘hairy creature’ (widely believed to represent Bigfoot or Sasquatch), an apple core, a distorted face, a fight cloud, a trombone, a treasure chest, an orca, and ballet dancers. These new symbols aim to enrich digital conversations with a broader range of visual cues.

Following Unicode 17’s release later this year, Apple’s design teams will begin the process of adapting these characters into their unique aesthetic. Users can expect to see these fresh emoji integrated into an iOS 26 update, most likely iOS 26.4, projected for release in spring 2026. This follows Apple’s standard rollout cycle, with the most recent emoji additions appearing in iOS 18.4 earlier this year.
