Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 has just hit shelves this week, and while it delivers a nostalgic punch, players have quickly noticed significant changes, particularly within its iconic soundtrack. Addressing the buzz, legendary skater Tony Hawk has offered fresh insights into the decisions behind the game’s updated music and character lineup in a recent BBC News interview.

Hawk reiterated his intention to introduce players to new music, a concept he’d previously hinted at months ago. He clarified that while he isn’t the sole arbiter of the soundtrack, he successfully pushed for several of his own band and song picks. His philosophy, he explained, was to “keep it fresh” and help players “discover other music,” mirroring the series’ original role in music discovery.

The Birdman also addressed the exclusion of fan favorites, such as Alien Ant Farm’s ‘Wish,’ explaining that it was part of a deliberate strategy to integrate “new acts and new songs.” He assured fans that such omissions were not personal, encouraging them to stream beloved tracks separately if desired.

Beyond the audio, Hawk touched on the game’s character roster, which blends series legends with new professional talent. He emphasized a commitment to featuring actively skating individuals, expressing enthusiasm for new additions like Chloe Covell, Rayssa Leal, and Andy Anderson. Hawk also confirmed the late inclusion of skater and Jackass star Bam Margera, a move he personally championed with Activision.
