In a significant blow to fans, Paramount+ has abruptly removed all past seasons of the beloved animated series South Park from its platform. This sudden disappearance comes amidst an escalating licensing dispute between Paramount and HBO Max, leaving viewers frustrated and the future of the show’s streaming home uncertain.

While specials like South Park: Post-COVID and South Park: The Streaming Wars, along with the film South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, remain accessible, the main library of individual episodes is no longer available for streaming on Paramount+. The move occurs just weeks before the highly anticipated twenty-seventh season of South Park is slated to premiere on July 23rd.

Paramount+ has begun contacting subscribers regarding the issue, issuing a statement that reads: “We understand your frustration. Unfortunately, South Park has come to the end of the window in which we have the rights to carry it on Paramount+ which is why it has now had to come down from the platform.”

Series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have openly voiced their displeasure with the ongoing corporate battle. After the upcoming season’s premiere was initially delayed from July 9th to July 23rd, they reportedly stated via the official South Park social media account, “This merger is a sh**show and it’s f***ing up South Park. We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.”

The controversy casts a shadow over the franchise’s planned big event at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. As of now, no further delays for season twenty-seven have been announced, nor has a definitive streaming home for the new episodes been confirmed beyond Comedy Central, leaving fans to wonder where their favorite animated series will land next.
