Central Texas is grappling with the devastating aftermath of torrential rains that triggered flash floods, claiming the lives of at least 50 people. The disaster, which unfolded on Saturday, July 5, has left search and rescue teams racing against time to locate over 20 girls still missing from Camp Mystic, a private Christian summer camp located along the Guadalupe River.

Water levels at Camp Mystic surged more than 20 feet in less than two hours, leading to widespread destruction. While four campers’ deaths have been confirmed by their families, authorities report that hundreds of individuals have been rescued or evacuated, many by helicopter, from the affected areas.

In response to the escalating crisis, the Trump administration has committed to honoring a federal disaster declaration signed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed that this declaration will facilitate crucial relief efforts for the state as it navigates the ongoing emergency.
