Paramount Global Settles Trump’s ’60 Minutes’ Lawsuit for $16 Million, Funds Earmarked for Presidential Library

US media giant Paramount Global has agreed to pay $16 million to settle a high-profile legal dispute with former President Donald Trump. The settlement, confirmed on Tuesday, resolves a lawsuit filed by Trump alleging deceptive editing of a 60 Minutes interview featuring then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
The $16 million payment will be allocated to Trump’s future presidential library, rather than being paid directly to him. Paramount stated the settlement does not include any apology or admission of wrongdoing, a point previously emphasized by CBS, which is owned by Paramount, when it called the case “completely without merit.”
Trump’s legal team quickly declared the settlement a “win for the American people” against “fake news media,” asserting that CBS and Paramount Global recognized the strength of their case. The lawsuit, filed last October, claimed CBS deceptively edited Harris’s response to a question about the Israel-Gaza war, creating two different versions of her answer to “tip the scales” in favor of the Democratic party.
CBS had previously maintained that the broadcast was not “doctored or deceitful,” explaining that Harris’s answer was edited for time, in line with television news standards. The settlement follows earlier negotiations, where Paramount reportedly offered $15 million in May, while Trump sought over $25 million. The final $16 million agreement also covers the former president’s legal fees and includes a commitment from 60 Minutes to release transcripts of interviews with future presidential candidates.
