Nothing has officially pulled back the curtain on its highly anticipated Phone 3, marking its first flagship smartphone release since its 2022 market entry. CEO Carl Pei promised a device built with “premium materials, major performance upgrades and software that really levels things up,” and the Phone 3, showcased at its London launch event, appears poised to compete directly with leading Android OEMs like Samsung.

Breaking from its predecessors, the Phone 3 introduces a groundbreaking “Glyph Matrix” – a secondary micro-LED screen replacing the traditional Glyph Interface. Positioned in the top right corner, this innovative display aims to reduce main screen time by showing app alerts, contact notifications, and real-time progress indicators from the phone’s back. The Glyph Matrix also supports “Glyph Toys,” widget-like features for digital clocks, stopwatches, battery indicators, and even simple games, with a public SDK planned for custom widget development. Future updates will include a caller ID feature accessible via the Glyph Button.

Under the hood, the Phone 3 boasts a vibrant 6.67-inch AMOLED primary display with 1.5K resolution and a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, coupled with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Photography is handled by a versatile quad-camera setup, featuring three rear 50-megapixel sensors and a 50-megapixel front-facing camera, all capable of 4K 60FPS video recording. Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) is included on the main and periscope lenses.

Powering the device is a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 system-on-a-chip, delivering a 36% CPU and 88% GPU performance boost over the Phone 2. Memory configurations include a base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, and a 16GB RAM/512GB storage variant. A robust 5,150mAh battery supports 65W wired and 15W wireless charging, promising up to 80 hours of uptime and a full charge in under an hour with the right adapter.

Running Android 15 out of the box, the Phone 3 integrates the “Essential Key” for quick access to the AI-powered Essential Space app, now featuring a “Flip to Record” shortcut for instant audio transcription. Nothing commits to five years of platform updates and seven years of security patches. Pre-orders for the Nothing Phone 3 kick off on July 4, with global availability commencing July 15. In the US, the 12GB model is priced at $799, while the 16GB variant costs $899, placing it competitively with devices like the Galaxy S25. The new handset will be sold via Amazon and Nothing’s official website.
