Trump Threatens Arrest of NYC Mayoral Front-Runner Mamdani Amid ICE Standoff

President Donald Trump issued a direct threat of arrest against New York City mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, should the presumptive Democratic nominee defy Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. We will not accept this intimidation,” Mamdani asserted.

The heated exchange follows the New York City Board of Elections’ release of updated ranked-choice voting results on Tuesday, which confirm Mamdani’s substantial lead over former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary, 56% to 44%. The general mayoral election is slated for November 4, 2025, with current Mayor Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo both expected to run as independents, alongside Republican Curtis Sliwa.
