During a recent appearance at FuelFest in Southern California, franchise star Vin Diesel made a surprising announcement: the highly anticipated final installment of the Fast & Furious saga is officially slated for release in April 2027.

Diesel, a veteran of almost every Fast & Furious film since its 2001 inception, further revealed that the grand finale will return to its roots, being set in Los Angeles. Perhaps the most significant revelation was the confirmation that his character, Dominic Toretto, will be reunited on screen with Brian O’Conner, the beloved character portrayed by the late Paul Walker.

Walker, who tragically passed away in a car crash in November 2013, was a pivotal part of the franchise, starring alongside Diesel in the original and appearing in five subsequent installments.

This announcement follows Diesel’s previous social media pushes urging Universal Pictures to set a release date for ‘Fast X Part 2’ (the sequel to 2023’s ‘Fast X’, which earned over $700 million globally), consistently billed as the franchise’s concluding chapter.

Diesel has long advocated for the final film to be set in Los Angeles, mirroring the original’s setting. He recently emphasized this point, particularly after the devastating L.A. wildfires, stating, “Los Angeles needs it now more than ever… Los Angeles is where Fast and Furious started filming 25 years ago… and now Fast will finally return home.”

The April 2027 release window currently appears clear of major cinematic competition, providing a prime slot for the grand finale. This month holds significance for the franchise, as 2015’s ‘Furious 7’ – the most successful film in the series with over $1.5 billion globally – also opened in April, achieving the franchise’s largest opening weekend.
