In a significant leadership shake-up, Tesla has reportedly fired Omead Afshar, its Head of Operations for North America and Europe. Often dubbed ‘Elon Musk’s fixer’ due to his instrumental role in major projects, Afshar’s dismissal comes just days before the close of Q2 2025, fueling speculation about the company’s recent performance.

The departure follows a challenging period for the EV giant, marked by declining sales across key markets. Tesla has seen its electric vehicle sales fall for the fifth consecutive month in Europe, with U.S. sales also dipping, and a notable 15% drop in China during May.

Afshar, who joined Tesla in 2017 and swiftly rose through the ranks to become Vice President overseeing North America and Europe operations in October 2024, was a trusted lieutenant to Elon Musk. His responsibilities included spearheading the development of the Austin gigafactory and celebrating the recent robotaxi launch. His exit follows the resignation of Milan Kovac, head of engineering for Tesla’s Optimus robot project, leaving Tesla with only three named executive officers: CEO Elon Musk, CFO Vaibhav Taneja, and Senior VP of Automotive Tom Zhu. Tesla has yet to issue an official statement regarding Afshar’s departure.
