Hey friend, did you hear? Kraft Heinz is going all-natural! They announced they’re phasing out *all* artificial dyes from their US food products by the end of 2027. That’s a pretty big deal.

Now, before you start picturing colorless Kool-Aid and weirdly pale Jell-O, remember that Kraft Heinz says the vast majority of their products already use natural colors or no colors at all. Think of it more as a cleanup operation than a total makeover. They’re focusing on the remaining products that still use artificial FD&C colors.

Their North America President, Pedro Navio, emphasized their commitment to providing nutritious and tasty food. He also pointed out that they’ve already successfully removed artificial colors, preservatives, and flavors from classics like Kraft Mac & Cheese (yay!), and Heinz ketchup has never had them anyway.

This move isn’t entirely out of the blue. It follows a recent announcement from the FDA and HHS about tackling petroleum-based synthetic dyes in American food. While Kraft Heinz isn’t explicitly saying they’re reacting directly to that announcement, the timing is certainly interesting.

So, what does this mean for you? Probably not much of a visual change in most cases, as they’re aiming for a gradual transition. But it’s a definite step towards more naturally colored food options from a major player in the industry. It’ll be interesting to see how they manage to keep that iconic bright red in their products while going natural!
