In a surprising turn of events amidst the ongoing government shutdown, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel has thrown his support behind Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, commending her for breaking ranks with her party over the shutdown’s potential impact on healthcare costs. Kimmel’s comments came during his Tuesday monologue, where he highlighted Greene’s concerns about expiring tax credits.

Kimmel referenced a Monday night post from Greene on X (formerly Twitter), in which the congresswoman revealed that if current tax credits expire, her own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 would double, alongside those of many constituents. Greene emphatically stated, “No I’m not towing the party line on this, or playing loyalty games.”

The comedian, known for his frequent criticisms of Greene, expressed his astonishment, declaring, “I know this sounds crazy, but I will say it for the second time in a month: Marjorie Taylor Greene is right.” This unexpected alignment marks a rare moment of agreement between the two, following a similar instance in early September.

While Democrats argue the current budget impasse could lead to millions losing healthcare, Republicans deny such claims. Greene, however, specifically criticized her party’s leadership, stating, “Not a single Republican in leadership talked to us about this or has given us a plan to help Americans deal with their health insurance premiums DOUBLING!!!” Her post, though also containing criticisms of the ACA and opposition to taxpayer-funded healthcare for undocumented immigrants, primarily focused on the immediate threat of rising premiums due to the shutdown.
