A severe snowstorm has stranded hundreds of climbers on the Tibetan side of Mount Everest, with rescue efforts currently underway amidst challenging conditions. Chinese state media reports indicate that 350 hikers have already been rescued from blizzard conditions on Sunday, while contact has been established with over 200 individuals who remain at high-altitude camps.

Initial reports from Jimu News suggested as many as 1,000 climbers were pinned down at sites just below base camp, at altitudes around 4,900 meters (16,076 feet). Tents have sustained damage, and while casualties have been reported, no fatalities have been confirmed thus far.

Rescue operations are being hampered by persistent heavy snow and strong winds, which have continued since Friday. Local tour companies suspended ticket sales to the area late Saturday, and local personnel have been deployed to clear snow blocking access roads to the camps.

The extreme weather has also impacted neighboring Nepal, where heavy rain has led to landslides and flash flooding, claiming dozens of lives across the border.
