Ukraine: Russian Drone Strike Kills 13,000 Pigs, Targets Critical Gas Infrastructure in Kharkiv

A Russian drone strike overnight into Friday, October 4, 2025, sparked a devastating fire at a farming enterprise in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, killing an estimated 13,000 pigs, according to emergency service officials. The attack, which hit the Novovodolazka community, also left one farm worker injured.
Photos released by Ukraine’s state emergency service depicted scenes of destruction, showing pig carcasses piled in burned-out sheds with shattered roofs. All eight stalls, spanning over 140,000 square feet, were consumed by the blaze.
This strike was part of a broader, massive Russian drone and missile assault primarily targeting natural gas extraction and processing facilities in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions. Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia fired 381 drones and 25 missiles, with some gas infrastructure sustaining critical damage.
Serhii Koretskyi, chief executive of Ukraine’s state-owned gas company Naftogaz, condemned the attacks as “deliberate terror against civilian facilities” with no military purpose, aimed at disrupting the upcoming heating season. Russia’s Ministry of Defense, however, stated its forces launched a mass strike against Ukraine’s military-industrial complex and supporting gas and energy infrastructure, claiming all designated targets were hit.
