YouTube Premium Expands High-Quality Audio and Faster Playback Across Devices
Google has recently rolled out significant enhancements to YouTube Premium, extending advanced features like 4x playback speeds and high-quality audio to a wider range of devices. Previously exclusive to certain platforms, these ‘power-user’ functionalities are now more broadly accessible, aiming to unify the subscriber experience.
Subscribers can now utilize faster playback speeds, adjustable in 0.5x increments up to 4x, across Android, iOS, and web platforms. Additionally, the ability to automatically download Shorts for offline viewing and watch them in picture-in-picture mode has been expanded to both iOS and Android. The ‘Jump Ahead’ feature, which allows users to skip to key moments in a video, is also now available on smart TVs and game consoles.
For music enthusiasts, a major update includes the option to select ‘High’ quality audio, delivering a 256kbps bitrate, directly within the main YouTube app for music videos and ‘Art Tracks’ on Android and iOS. This premium audio setting was previously confined to the YouTube Music app. While these updates do not alter the core ad-free benefit of a $13.99-per-month YouTube Premium subscription, they represent a considerable effort by Google to provide a more consistent and robust experience across all user devices.
