NEW YORK – Attorneys for music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs have formally urged a New York federal judge to sentence him to no more than 14 months in prison for his two prostitution-related convictions, a move that would see him released almost immediately. The defense submitted their arguments on Monday, emphasizing that Combs’s celebrity status and legacy have been ‘shattered’ by the legal proceedings and his nearly 13 months already spent behind bars.

Combs, who faces sentencing on October 3rd, was convicted in July on two Mann Act charges, each carrying a maximum of 10 years. His lawyers contend that the jury’s exoneration on more serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges sends a clear message of his innocence on those fronts. They argue that Combs has been sufficiently punished, enduring harsh prison conditions – including a shiv incident, constant suicide watch, and limited access to clean water – while also using his time to become sober and teach inmates business skills.

The defense also highlighted the devastating impact on Combs’s businesses, over 100 employees, and his seven children, whose careers have suffered due to the scandal. They contrasted his current state with his past ‘sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll’ lifestyle, noting his newfound sobriety and commitment to family. Prosecutors are expected to recommend a substantially longer sentence, having previously indicated a desire for Combs to remain imprisoned for years beyond their initial projections.
