The San Francisco Bay Area was rattled yesterday morning by a 4.3 magnitude earthquake centered just east-southeast of Berkeley. The tremor, which struck shortly before 3 a.m. PDT, was widely felt across the region, with over 24,000 individuals reporting the sharp shake to the United States Geological Survey.

While the seismic event caused widespread alarm, authorities have confirmed no major injuries. Minor damage was observed in a few Berkeley stores, including broken windows and merchandise dislodged from shelves. Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) temporarily implemented systemwide speed restrictions for track safety inspections, resulting in commuter delays of up to 20 minutes.

San Francisco’s Department of Emergency Management reported an increase in 911 calls but no major damage within the city. Mayor Dan Lurie took to social media to assure residents that first responders are actively assessing the impact and that updates would follow. Meteorologist Brayden Murdock of the National Weather Service indicated that earthquakes in the 4-magnitude range are typically not hazardous, a sentiment supported by the limited impact observed across the Bay Area. Reports confirm the shaking was felt as far south as Salinas, approximately 100 miles from the epicenter.
