A 23-year-old man, Hunter Nadeau of Nashua, has been charged with second-degree murder following a deadly shooting Saturday night at the Sky Meadow Country Club. The Attorney General’s Office confirmed that Nadeau allegedly shot and killed 59-year-old Robert DeCesare. DeCesare’s autopsy is scheduled for today, Monday, with Nadeau expected to be arraigned at 1 p.m.

The chaotic incident also left two other individuals with gunshot wounds, one of whom was in critical condition but is now stable after being flown to a Boston hospital. Four additional people sustained non-gunshot injuries while attempting to flee the scene, which had over 100 patrons at the time.

Investigators currently believe there was no prior connection between Nadeau and DeCesare. While the suspect reportedly made various statements during the shooting, including “Free Palestine,” Attorney General John Formella stated that evidence suggests these were intended to create chaos, and there is no indication of a hate-based motive. Nadeau previously worked at the country club about a year ago.

Robert DeCesare’s mother, Evie O’Rourke, told WMUR’s sister station that her son heroically jumped in front of his wife and daughter to protect them during the attack. Authorities lauded the selfless actions of patrons who helped contain the event and minimize further tragedy.

Additional charges against Nadeau are anticipated as the investigation continues.
