New video evidence has emerged, verifying a significant fire at the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat plant in Bashkortostan, Russia, following reports of a Ukrainian attack more than 1,000km (620 miles) within Russian territory. BBC Verify journalists have confirmed the authenticity of the footage, which shows a structure ablaze and a substantial plume of black smoke billowing over the industrial site.

The location of the incident was verified by matching distinctive chimneys and pylons from street-level images with those seen in the video. The overcast and cloudy conditions depicted in the footage are consistent with local weather reports for Salavat today, further corroborating its recency. The head of Bashkortostan has also officially confirmed both the attack and the subsequent fire at the facility.

This development comes as Ukraine concurrently reports a new wave of Russian aggression, with its air force stating that 75 drones were launched overnight.
