Tesla Confirms Door Handle Redesign Following Federal Safety Investigation

Tesla has announced plans to redesign its electric door handles following a recent federal safety investigation by the US National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA). Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla’s head of design, confirmed the development on Bloomberg’s Hot Pursuit! podcast. He stated the company is exploring a new approach that combines the electric and manual release mechanisms. “The idea of combining the electronic one and the manual one together into one button, I think, makes a lot of sense,” von Holzhausen commented, adding, “That’s something that we’re working on.” While he did not explicitly link the redesign to the NHTSA probe, the timing suggests a direct response to the regulatory scrutiny.
