Delta Air Lines and American Airlines have confirmed the suspension of multiple employees in connection with social media posts discussing last week’s fatal shooting of activist Charlie Kirk. The disciplinary actions follow a strong stance against content deemed to violate company values and policies.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian stated in an internal memo that the social media content from affected employees ‘went well beyond healthy, respectful debate’ and contrasted sharply with the airline’s values. These employees have been suspended pending a full investigation.

Similarly, American Airlines announced the immediate removal from service of employees found to be using social media to ‘promote such violence.’ The moves come amidst increasing corporate scrutiny and pressure, including calls from the Trump administration and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who publicly demanded the firing of those ‘celebrating the assassination.’ Duffy posted on X, stating, ‘This behavior is disgusting and they should be fired. Any company responsible for the safety of the traveling public cannot tolerate that behavior.’

United Airlines has also reinforced its social media policy among pilots, reminding them that content inappropriate for the workplace is equally inappropriate on social media when linked to their employment. It remains unclear if United has initiated any suspensions or terminations.
