Public Memorial Set for Charlie Kirk at State Farm Stadium Amid Murder Charges

PHOENIX (AZFamily/AP) — A public memorial for conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was tragically assassinated earlier this week, has been scheduled for State Farm Stadium in Glendale. The event will take place on Sunday, September 21, with doors opening at 8 a.m. and the program commencing at 11 a.m.
Kirk, co-founder of the Arizona-based nonprofit political organization Turning Point USA, was killed by a single gunshot during a debate at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Authorities quickly launched a manhunt, leading to the arrest of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson on Friday. Robinson faces charges including capital murder, weapons, and obstruction offenses in connection with the deadly shooting.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox described the incident as a political assassination, noting that Robinson had become increasingly political prior to the shooting. Evidence cited by the governor includes engravings on bullet casings and chat app messages shared with law enforcement by the suspect’s roommate. Vice President JD Vance escorted Kirk’s casket aboard Air Force Two to Arizona earlier this week, arriving at Hansen Mortuary Chapel in Phoenix.
