Apple Extends Advanced Health Features to Older Apple Watch Models Next Week

Apple is set to roll out a suite of new health-tracking features to a wider range of its smartwatches with the upcoming launch of watchOS 26. Slated for release on September 15th, the update means many users won’t need to upgrade to the latest devices to access advanced functionalities previously associated with newer models.
Among the key additions are hypertension notifications, live translation, and a new wrist-flick gesture. These features will become available for the Apple Watch Series 9 and newer, as well as the last-generation Watch Ultra 2. The hypertension notifications utilize the watches’ existing optical heart sensors to analyze blood vessel responses, with an algorithm reviewing data over 30 days to detect signs of high blood pressure. Apple anticipates FDA and other regulatory clearances this month, with a rollout planned for over 150 countries.
Additionally, the Sleep Score feature, which assesses sleep quality using heart rate, wrist temperature, blood oxygen, and respiratory data, will extend beyond the new Watch Series 11. It will be made available to the Watch Series 6 and later, all Watch Ultra models, and the second-generation Watch SE and later, provided they are paired with an iPhone 11 or newer.
