Warner Bros.’ horror sensation ‘Weapons’ has once again dominated the North American box office, securing the number one position over the Labor Day weekend and effectively closing out the summer 2025 movie season. The film grossed an estimated $10.2 million over the three-day period, contributing to a robust total weekend gross of $63.6 million across all films.

Remarkably, Steven Spielberg’s 1975 classic ‘Jaws’ proved its enduring appeal, with its 50th-anniversary re-release chomping up an impressive $8.1 million to land in second place. This strong performance overshadowed new releases like Sony’s ‘Caught Stealing’ and Searchlight’s ‘The Roses’, both of which struggled to find an audience.

‘Weapons’, now in its fourth week, has accumulated a domestic total of $132.39 million and a global haul of $234.6 million, solidifying its status as a major win for original horror content this year. Its projected four-day Labor Day weekend take is expected to reach $12.4 million.

Conversely, Darren Aronofsky’s crime flick ‘Caught Stealing’, starring Austin Butler, debuted with a disappointing $7.8 million, falling short of industry predictions and even opening below the decades-old ‘Jaws’ re-release. Similarly, Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman’s ‘The Roses’ opened in fifth place with $6.35 million.

Looking ahead, the fall season kicks off with high anticipation as Warner Bros. prepares to unleash ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ next weekend, expected to be another significant horror performer for the studio.
