The U.S. Coast Guard announced a record-breaking summer operation, seizing more than 76,000 pounds (34,500 kilograms) of illegal drugs with an estimated street value of $473 million. The massive haul, described as the service’s largest-ever, was offloaded by the Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton at Port Everglades, Florida, on Monday, August 25, 2025.
The extensive interdiction efforts, conducted in collaboration with the Department of Defense, targeted drug-carrying vessels across the Pacific and Caribbean. Operations spanned from the Galapagos Islands off Ecuador to the coasts of Venezuela, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Aruba.
During the multi-agency crackdown, Coast Guard crews intercepted 19 vessels, leading to the detention of 34 suspected drug traffickers. The seized narcotics included approximately 61,740 pounds (28,000 kilograms) of cocaine and 14,400 pounds (6,500 kilograms) of marijuana, underscoring a significant blow to international drug trafficking networks.
