Nvidia Rolls Out Major App Update Today: Global DLSS, Enhanced Controls, RTX 40 Smooth Motion

Nvidia is launching a significant update to its new app today, August 19th, introducing a highly anticipated global DLSS override, a suite of new control panel features, and expanded support for its Smooth Motion technology. This latest release marks a major step towards fully integrating all legacy control panel options into the streamlined Nvidia app.

Key additions include comprehensive graphic settings like anisotropic filtering, anti-aliasing, and ambient occlusion, which can now be adjusted directly within the new app, eliminating the need to access the older control panel. Furthermore, the setup tool for Nvidia Surround is now integrated.

A standout feature is the new global DLSS override, allowing users to set their preferred DLSS configurations across all supported games, rather than on a per-game basis. The Nvidia overlay will also display active DLSS settings when this option is enabled.

In a move to enhance gameplay for a wider audience, Nvidia’s Smooth Motion feature, previously exclusive to RTX 50-series GPUs, is now rolling out to all RTX 40-series owners. This driver-based AI model aims to double perceived frame rates in games lacking DLSS Frame Generation, working seamlessly with DLSS Super Resolution, native resolutions, or other upscaling technologies.

Finally, the update refines Nvidia’s G-Assist AI assistant, optimizing its underlying AI model to use 40 percent less memory while maintaining or even improving response times. These changes are available to beta users starting today, with a general release expected next week.
