New investigative documents from Idaho State Police reveal alarming details about Bryan Kohberger’s conduct while attending a criminal justice program, months before he brutally murdered four University of Idaho students in 2022. The more than 550 pages, recently released in response to public records requests, include interviews with Washington State University students and faculty, painting a disturbing picture of the convicted killer.

One WSU faculty member reportedly urged colleagues to cut Kohberger’s funding, fearing he would stalk or sexually abuse students if he became a professor. She warned, “Mark my word, I work with predators, if we give him a Ph.D., that’s the guy that in that many years when he is a professor, we will hear is harassing, stalking, and sexually abusing … his students at wherever university.” This faculty member also described Kohberger physically blocking doors to offices where female grad students worked and suspected him of stalking, noting a reported break-in at a female student’s apartment where perfume and underwear were stolen.

Other graduate students described Kohberger as enjoying conflict, disparaging women, and being fixated on sexual burglary—his field of study. One Ph.D. student recalled Kohberger’s chilling comments weeks after the murders, stating the perpetrator “must have been pretty good” and that it might have been a “one and done type thing.” Complaints about Kohberger’s “rude and belittling behavior toward women” led to mandatory behavioral training for all graduate students.

While many colleagues didn’t suspect his involvement in the killings for which he was sentenced to life in prison last month, one student noted his post-murder changes, including abandoning his cellphone in class and appearing disheveled. This student later reported seeing Kohberger with bloody knuckles prior to the slayings. Furthermore, cellmates after his arrest observed Kohberger’s obsessive hygiene, using three bars of soap weekly, taking hour-long showers, and excessively washing his hands until they were red.
