Hazmat Crews Respond to Major Train Derailment in Palo Pinto, Texas

Emergency crews are on the scene in Palo Pinto County, Texas, after approximately 35 Union Pacific Railroad cars derailed on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. The incident, which occurred around 2 p.m. local time over the Coalville Road Bridge, is being treated as a hazardous materials (HazMat) situation.

While officials confirmed no one was injured in the derailment and no cars are currently leaking contents, the Palo Pinto Fire Department is also working to contain a grass fire that ignited at the scene. The train, operated by Union Pacific Railroad, had a significant number of cars leave the tracks about two miles east of Gordon, Texas.
