Austin, TX – Three people are dead and a suspect is now in custody following a deadly shooting that occurred yesterday, August 11, at a Target store on Research Boulevard.

Austin police responded to calls of shots fired around 2:15 p.m. Monday. Upon arrival, officers confirmed three individuals had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

Authorities identified a 32-year-old male as the suspect. He reportedly fled the scene by first stealing a car from the Target parking lot, with the vehicle’s owner among those killed. After crashing the initial stolen vehicle, the suspect proceeded to steal a second car from a nearby dealership in an attempt to evade law enforcement.

Austin Police successfully located and apprehended the suspect in the southern part of the city. He was taken into custody after being subdued with a Taser. The investigation into the motive and full circumstances surrounding the shooting remains active and ongoing.

Initial reports from Austin-Travis County EMS had indicated four victims, a number later corrected to three.
