A family in Pakistan has finally found closure after the intact body of their father, Nasiruddin, was discovered on a melting glacier nearly three decades after he vanished. The 31-year-old, who disappeared in 1997 after fleeing a village dispute with his brother, was found by locals near the shrinking Lady Meadows glacier in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on July 31. His body, remarkably well-preserved and still carrying an identity card, was buried this past Wednesday.

“Our family left no stone unturned to trace him over the years,” said Malik Ubaid, Nasiruddin’s nephew, expressing profound relief at the discovery. “Finally, we have got some relief after the recovery of his dead body.”

The discovery highlights the escalating impact of climate change on Pakistan’s vast glacier systems, which are the largest outside the polar regions. Rising global temperatures are causing these glaciers to recede rapidly, frequently unearthing remains of individuals lost decades ago. This incident follows a growing trend of similar discoveries worldwide, as thawing ice reveals long-held secrets and brings unexpected closure to grieving families.
