Former President Barack Obama has issued a forceful call for immediate action to halt what he described as “preventable starvation” in the Gaza Strip. In posts on social platform X, linking to New York Times reports, Obama stressed the critical need for humanitarian aid to reach civilians.

“While a lasting resolution to the crisis in Gaza must involve a return of all hostages and a cessation of Israel’s military operations, these articles underscore the immediate need for action to be taken to prevent the travesty of innocent people dying of preventable starvation,” Obama wrote. He added, “Aid must be permitted to reach people in Gaza. There is no justification for keeping food and water away from civilian families.”

Obama’s statement comes as the Israeli military announced a “tactical pause” in fighting in parts of Gaza due to mounting concerns over widespread starvation. Meanwhile, President Trump, when asked about the crisis, reiterated claims that Hamas is stealing aid meant for the population, though the Israeli military has stated there is no proof of systematic aid theft.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also pushed back against international criticism, asserting that Israel has been allowing limited humanitarian aid into Gaza through secure corridors, provided it doesn’t enhance Hamas’s military capabilities or endanger hostages. Netanyahu accused the U.N. of spreading “lies and falsehoods” regarding aid access.
