Democrats Demand Epstein ‘Birthday Book’ Amidst Ongoing Oversight into Trump Administration’s Handling of Files

House Democrats have intensified their push for transparency in the Jeffrey Epstein case, formally requesting a copy of the alleged ‘birthday book’ that reportedly contains a crude poem and doodle from Donald Trump. In a letter dispatched on Friday to attorneys representing Epstein’s estate, California Congressmen Ro Khanna and Robert Garcia underscored the book’s potential as ‘essential’ to congressional oversight concerning the Trump administration’s approach to the Epstein controversy.
The congressmen have set an August 10 deadline for a ‘complete and unredacted’ copy of the book. Khanna emphasized the public’s right to truth and justice for survivors, criticizing Congress for recessing without voting on his bipartisan bill to release Epstein files. The ‘birthday book,’ a leather-bound album compiled by convicted co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell, is said to feature greetings from numerous high-profile figures, including messages attributed to Trump, Bill Clinton, and Alan Dershowitz.
This development follows the New York Times’ recent publication of an image of Maxwell’s dedication within the book. Trump is currently suing the Wall Street Journal over its initial report claiming his contribution of a page with an imagined dialogue and a sketch, which he has labeled ‘fake and nonexistent.’ The Democrats’ request was spurred by attorney Brad Edwards, representing hundreds of Epstein’s victims, who confirmed the estate’s possession of the book and its likely release upon request. Garcia, the top Democrat on the House oversight committee, stressed the importance of identifying individuals involved in Epstein’s trafficking network who hold positions of power.
The demand for these files highlights a significant divide between Trump and his base, who have long called for document releases, and Democrats, who are leveraging the issue. Trump’s past association with Epstein in the 1990s and early 2000s is well-documented, though he maintains he severed ties in 2004 and has not been accused of wrongdoing. Earlier this week, the Journal reported that then-US Attorney General Pam Bondi had briefed Trump in May on multiple appearances of his name in Epstein-related files. Despite the Trump administration’s efforts to release grand jury transcripts, a Florida judge rejected the request, though a similar case remains active in New York. Todd Blanche, Trump’s former criminal defense lawyer and now deputy attorney general, met with Maxwell in federal prison on Friday, with another meeting scheduled for Saturday, as Maxwell seeks to overturn her conviction.
