George Santos Begins Seven-Year Federal Prison Sentence for Fraud
Former U.S. Representative George Santos has reported to a federal prison in Fairton, New Jersey, on Friday to begin serving his seven-year sentence for fraud charges. The federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that Santos, who was ousted from Congress, is now in custody at the Federal Correctional Institution.
Santos pleaded guilty last summer to federal wire fraud and aggravated identity theft charges, which involved deceiving donors and stealing identities to fund his congressional campaign. The disgraced lawmaker, who recently turned 37, marked his impending incarceration with a farewell message on social media platform X on Thursday night, declaring, “The curtain falls, the spotlight dims, and the rhinestones are packed.”
His lawyer, Joe Murray, briefly commented, “FREE GEORGE SANTOS.” Santos will serve his time in a minimum-security camp at the all-male facility.
